Puttalam Village

The Puttalam Village is a typical example of small town life in rural Sri Lanka. Guests can visit the village and the main market; and take a peek at salt, coconut and energy production facilities and watch how villagers live and work in the dry-zone of this sunny island.

 

Kalpitya

The Kalpitiya Bay and beach area is a famous tourist destination - given the attractive options available there, some of which are whale and dolphin watching, deep sea diving, snorkeling, fishing, kite-surfing, water-skiing and kayaking. The village of Kalpitiya is an hour drive away from Monsoon Villa, however the coastal villages of Noracholai, Alankudah and Kandakuliya that lie en route to Kalpitiya are now renowned whale and dolphin watching sites - a mere 15 to 25 minute drive away.

 

Wilpattu

A thirty to forty minute drive from Monsoon Villa takes you to Leopard Country; Wilpattu National Park, located approximately 42km to the North of the Villa on the A12 Highway, is the oldest and largest national park in Sri Lanka. The Sanctuary is renowned for its unique water holes called “Villus” and holds several hundred species of flora and fauna that include the leopard, the elephant, the Sambur deer, the Sloth bear, Mugger crocodiles and the Indian python, in addition to countless bird species.

 

Anuradhapura

One of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, the city of Anuradhapura holds ruins of a bygone civilization in the form of several dagobas or dome shaped monastic buildings, pokuna or tanks and ponds and also a sacred bo tree (ficus religiosa) believed to have been planted in 245 BC. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Anuradhapura is must-see tourist destination and is 75 Km from the Villa, an approximately one and half hours drive on the A12 Highway.
